New Orleans - Bring on the Gators!

Earlier this month, three girlfriends and I set off on a cajun adventure.  Goober, Wrigley-T, and I flew in from Chicago - our bud Bruiser set off from NYC... all of us on a New Orleans adventure!

There were planes...

Elevator photo shoots...

Streetcar rides...

Oysters (and the coldest beers on earth!) at Cooter Browns...

Frosty beverages...

LOTS of synchronized swimming (they should join the Olympic team, don't you think?)!

A fancytimes dinner at John Besh's August (highly recommend!) - where Goober discovered that elusive treat known as bacon bourbon...

I mean REALLY - so delicious!

Plenty of night-walking...

And of course we had to go on a swamp tour... GATORS!!!  See how scared everyone was?? (except for Goober, she is always cool as a cucumber!)

Bruiser brought gummy gators for us to enjoy all weekend long, and of course we had to bring them along to meet their namesake!

Based on a recommendation from one of our friends that grew up there, we chose Honey Island Swamp Tours out in Slidell, LA.  For $45, they'll pick you up from your hotel and then take you out to meet those impressive reptiles...

We all agreed that the swamp tour was the best part of our entire weekend.  It was so cool to see alligators up close, something us city folk never ever get to see.

Check out the gators (and their gummy counterparts) in action!

We ate a lot, drank a lot, and then ate some more on our trip.  We stayed at the Hotel Montelone (highly recommend.)  I'll take New Orleans over Vegas any day for a quick weekend getaway.  What are your favorite NOLA spots?

Snappy!! (apologies as I will forever think of you as snappy) first and foremost, I had forgotten how photogenic you are - you are striking! Second, how fun is NOLA?! I'm a huge fan of Chef Besh (Luke is our family fave resturant) but I have yet to try August. You beter bet it's shot to the top of the list! :)

Not gonna lie - those gator pics leave me borderline hyperventilating. I have issues.

I am dying to go to NOLA - I've never been and it just looks like an awesome trip!

Oooh I'm so jealous of your trip! I haven't been to NOLA for fun...ever? I was there for a choir tour in high school (yeah, no Bourbon Street for me), and then once for a work conference. I wanna go for fun!

Ok, and that gator tour is cool, but um...I have so many questions. Was that private property/the gators were in captivity?!?! How in the world are they allowed to feed them like that? I only ask because I live in Florida of course...and we are always hearing about gators and how you should never ever ever ever EVER feed them. Basically, the reason that gators DO attack people is because humans feed them. So...someone throws them a hot dog one day, and then the next day some random person walks by, and they assume that this person has food for them too...so they run up to you...and um...when you don't have food, they assume that you will have to do instead. Haha ok sorry, that was rambly...but our neighbors across the street had to call animal control a few years ago because there was a 10 foot gator on their front porch (and we all had to stay indoors before they caught it)...my parents live in a developed neighborhood, so the fact that a huge gator can just walk right up to your front door freaks me the HECK out. Haha!
