Injured

Hi, everyone :)

The last few weeks have been "interesting" (note the quotation marks).  My body's been letting me down in some ways - or maybe I've let my body down, not sure which.

  • I sustained my first running injury (strained Achilles), and I've been on a strict no-running diet for the past week and a half.  Trust me, it feels like a diet.  I love me some running endorphins.  My right foot is just now getting to where I feel like it's safe to start running again.  It's frustrating because I was doing everything right.  I don't overtrain, and I subscribe to slow increases in mileage each week.  Somehow, I hurt myself anyway.
  • I also wrenched my neck pretty badly, in another mysterious and unknown incident.  Seriously, I woke up one morning and couldn't turn my head.  Five days later, I'm only halfway recovered and about to sign up for le doctor.
  • Today, my body got all excited to get super nauseous and feverish.

With all of the above,  my frustration is pretty high, to say the least.

As the cherry on top, I've been dealing with a few people in my life who are... mean.  Everyone has those people that act in immature ways, and there's nothing we can do to change others' inappropriate and harmful behavior.  Dealing with them has been an opportunity for me to practice my kindness and supportive boundary superpowers, to say the least.

My body's injured.  My heart's injured.  In spite of all this I'm thankful.  Life's good, even when it's not.

I hope you feel better soon, Penny! Next week will be better. I particularly feel for you regarding your neck injury - I have neck/shoulder issues and that happens at least twice a year for me. If you do end up seeing a doctor, he may prescribe a muscle relaxer, which (if you don't mind taking meds) will work WONDERS!

I hope you get back to your normal soon! Dealing with people who aren't nice isn't a fun thing either. Kill em' with kindness to their face and scream in a pillow in private lol.

Ouch, when your mind wants to go and your body can't it is not fun. Have you been doing the rhings like strength training or yoga?

I'm so sorry, and I hope things make a turn for the better soon.

I had very frustrating Achilles problems when I trained for my first half, but since I started doing yoga I've barely had any running injuries (*knock on wood*).

Hope you feel better soon. As someone with past neck issues, I can't recommend a chiropractor highly enough! Please go - you will feel better immediately, rather than go through days of pain.

It's one of those weeks, Penny. Like Cynthia said, kill em with kindness and have a good bitchnmoan with your nearest and dearest over margaritas! :) Works every time.

My husband wrenched something in his back this week and had to stay home a day and a half from work. He works out 6 days a week and hasn't worked out in almost a week because of it and is feeling the same lows as you are. It hurts to train so hard to be thrown off track by the limitations of your own body, but the longer you give yourself to heal the stronger you'll come out of it in the end.

Friday hugs!

Hi Penny! I hope things start improving soon. It sounds like you've got a lot going on in your life. You might be interested in a few posts I did about mindbody connection related to pain and injury. The first post on my blog is http://www.commitmentisliberating.com/2009/04/mindbody-prescription-healing-body.html, but there are several others with the tag 'back pain' (even though it has actually been a mix of back pain, hives and foot pain (which I thought was a running injury)).

Take care of yourself - both the physical and the mental stuff!
