A Summer Hat for my Summer Hairs
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 7:00AM My hair is currently quite red. I have a habit of changing my hair color... blonde, black, brown... I've tried it all. For the past few months, I played around with highlights, but let's be honest: highlights are a pain in the patootie. They're expensive, and you have to get them touched up every couple months. I'm cheap and impatient, so highlights are supreme torture for me. To remedy this, I instead went with the most sensitive fake hair color out there. Because that's just so much easier. (Raising eyebrows at myself.) Anywho, sun kills red haircolor, and it'd uncover the highlights I'm trying to mash into dye-job oblivion, so... hello, summer hat!
Normally, I hate people in hats. I think they look like they're trying too hard, AND because I'm a jerk sometimes. Mostly because I'm a jerk. However, I HAVE TO PROTECT MY RED HAIR! (sigh) Whatever.
I snagged myself "Kate's Tipped Cloche" from Free People in both black and natural. I could not bring myself to buy a fedora or big floppy hat because that just would have been too much humble pie for me to eat. Baby steps here, baby steps.

As my most secret self... I kind of like my new hats. I think I hate myself. I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE IN THE HATS!!!
What kind of humble pie have you been eating lately? Are you as dramatic about it as I am?

First of all, you look beautiful as a red head. I wish I had the guts to go full red.
My sister-in-law looks awesome in hats. Like, really, really good in them. She has the funky vibe (and the perfect hair) to pull them off. Jealous.
I think those hats look cute! I'm the type of person who always think hats look cute on other people but never on me.
What is the "most sensitive fake hair color out there" that you used, if you don't mind me asking? I get my hair colored just to cover some stray grays, but I balk at the cost and time involved, too. I'm always on the lookout for good at-home treatments.
Ha! I totally feel you on the hat thing. I sorta hate people who wear them but at the same time think some of them are so cute. I think its the emo attitude coupled with a hat that make the look annoying. Since you are clearly not annoying, I think you can rock the hat. :)
That is such a cute hat-- you will rock that!
A guy I knew once told me that I wasn't a hat person (meaning I didn't look good in hats) and I've never been able to wear hats since then without feeling self-conscious!
@Kathy - I was just speaking generally about red hair dye; it fades dramatically very easily!
@Maya - I actually think you'd be totally cute in a hat! We should wear our hats and be self-conscious together. :)
I too hate people in hats. However I will make an exception for redheads now :)
Haha! Great post. My husband despises fedoras, and the people who wear them. This all occurred in reaction to going to a Jason Mraz (Mr. Fedora himself) concert years ago. We got lost in a sea of fedora-wearing fans, and he never quite recovered.
I love your new hats! Very cute!
Hahaha! People in hats are cheesy. And I'm one of them. But I have to protect my forehead and nose and haven't yet found sunglasses big enough to do that. I love the hats you have though.
I love Free People!!! I got a super cute FP skirt the other day that someone had lamely tossed aside into thrift shop oblivion. I saved her and she is safe and darling in my closet now.
I bought some sort of black fedora-ish hat a while ago. The only time I have actually worn it in public was for an 80s themed event months and months later (since it's kind of Michael Jackson-esque). It's actually cute, so I just need to wear it out more. I am in the same boat-sometimes hats can look so pretentious, but really, deep down, I think I just wish I was cool enough to wear one. Fine, I am now inspired to wear my hat out some time soon.
