Back on the Road

Well, it's been roughly four months since my marathon, and I'm getting back on the running train!  PSA: When you stop running 40 miles a week, those margaritas start sticking to your hips.  Really.  :)

Chicago just hosted their running season opener - the Shamrock Shuffle!  Bossyboots and I were there in full effect.  Mr. Weather treated me well, and THIS year was no blizzard.  I've only run three times MAYBE since December, so.... the experience was interesting.  So fun, but damn, that was a rough run.  Afterwards, Bossyboots and I hit up Bennigans for burgers and beer...  A city full of yum food, and we choose Bennigans.  What can I say?  We were desperate!

Bossyboots and I decided - a bit on a lark - to sign up for the Rock 'n Roll Chicago Half Marathon, taking place August 1st.  You know what that means?  Today is my first day of training!  This time around, I'm pairing weight training with my runs, and my gym membership will come in so handy.  Although now that it's finally beautiful and sunny outside... I should probably buy myself some shorts.  That winter gear will do me no good now!

ooh I am doing this race too! I did it last year and it was a lot of fun. I slacked on running over the winter, too - guess it's time to get back to serious training mode :)

I'd been thinking of signing up for a half marathon. You've sent me over the edge. Its a done deal now. Any tips for a beginner?
